Students at the University of Houston commute from all over the Houston Metro area. Should you ever be in need of emergency transportation assistance, the university and city offer a plethora of transportation options to get you on your way to campus!

On-Campus Resources

Cougar Line

Wrapped in the University's signature red and white colors, the Cougar Line shuttles welcome you to the powerhouse. There's even ample air-conditioning to make for a comfortable and quick ride – all shuttles are equipped with complimentary WiFi! Shuttles run continuously on-campus as well as to and from the UH at Sugar Land instructional site.

Student Discounted Metro Fare Cards

UH students are eligible for discounted METRO fare cards and passes. To sign up, log in to myParking account via AccessUH and click on the "Get Permits" option under the "Permits" button in the top navigation bar.

After submitting your request, your card will be ready to pick up at the Welcome Center Parking Services Desk after 2 p.m. the next business day. All you need to do is provide your Cougar Card for identification.

Cougar Ride

The Cougar Ride After-Hours Shuttle Service is a new program from Parking and Transportation Services that provides rides to and from all on-campus shuttle stops, as well as MD Anderson Library and Cougar Village/Moody Towers. The service is part of the multi-faceted approach of the Transportation & Security Work Group.  The service is available seven days a week from 9 p.m.-3 a.m. and is free to all members of the UH Community. You can request a ride any time between 9 p.m. and 2:45 a.m.

Coogs on Alternative and Sustainable Transportation (COAST)

Carpooling coordination service through Parking and Transportation Services (PTS). Campus community members can submit an interest form and meeting with the PTS team to finalize their registration.


Houston BCycle is a bike-share program in Houston, with six stations located on-campus. With 90+ stations and 635+ bikes through central Houston, there is always a bike to be found! UH students, staff, and faculty members get discounted memberships.


The University of Houston offers on-campus car-sharing through Zipcar to students, faculty, and staff 18 years of age or older. Members will have access to a variety of vehicles that can be used for a small hourly charge. Actual rates vary by make and model; however, the price covers gas and insurance, so it might be cheaper than driving your own car.

Whether it is by bus, Metrorail, or vanpool – Metro is committed to getting Houstonians moving. Visit their website to learn about schedules and locations. Metro also provides METROLift for passengers with temporary or permanent disability needs.
