On-Campus Resources

University of Houston Police Department

UHPD is our on-campus police force and is focused on keeping our campus community safe. They are a visible presence on-campus patrolling 24/7. They also offer various types of crime prevention education, security escorts, and bike registration programs.

  • Security Escorts
UHPD continually works with the University community to make the campus a safe place to learn, work, and live. Our Security escort service is designed for the community members who have safety concerns and would like to have a Security Officer walk with them, for their safety, as they make their way across campus. Based on availability either a UHPD Security Officer or Police Officer will escort students, faculty, and staff to locations beginning and ending on campus. If you feel that you need a Security Officer to walk with you for your safety please call 3-3333. Arrangements may be made for special needs.
  • Emergency Callboxes
Emergency call boxes (also known as blue lights) have been placed at various locations on the University of Houston campus. These call boxes are red in color, are labeled "Emergency and Information Call Box" in white letters, and have a blue light on top. Operation is easy. Your call goes directly to our University Police Communications Division. Call boxes can be used to request police assistance, escorts, assists with vehicle problems, and information.

UH ALERT

UH ALERT is the official emergency notification system for the University of Houston. UH ALERT is used to provide prompt notification to students, faculty, and staff in the event that there is a condition that may threaten the health or safety of those on campus.

You are not alone.

Stay Cougar S.A.F.E.!

The University of Houston is an open campus filled with people who care about each other. Because of its open accessibility, all students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to exercise a sense of personal responsibility for their own safety and well-being, and the safety and well-being of others. While crime can happen anywhere, when we act as a community that knows and cares about the safety of others, ourselves and our property, we lessen the likelihood of being victimized, and we showcase our Cougar Pride.

The Cougar Pack

The Cougar Pack is a student-run safety escort program coordinated by the Student Government Association and Department of Campus Safety. All Cougar Pack escorts begin in front of the M.D. Anderson Library every Tuesday and Thursday, from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Requests are on a first-come-first-serve basis, so look out for our Cougar Pack coordinators in branded vests!
