Chitra Divakaruni,who holds
a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley, brings diversity
to the faculty through her ability to teach fiction, poetry, and nonfiction
workshops as well as multicultural literature courses. She has published
four books of poetry, three novels, two collections of stories, two young
adult novels; edited two anthologies; and had work appear in numerous
journals and anthologies, including Best American Short Stories
and O'Henery PizeStone. Her writing has won the American Book
Award, two Pushcart Prizes, two PEN Syndicated Fiction Awards, the C.Y.
Lee Creative Writing Award, and the Allen Ginsberg Poetry Prize, and she
has been chosen for the Woman of Achievement Award, the Woman of Vision
Award, and two National Excellence in Teaching Awards.
