AFB: Activities Funding Board. A subcommittee of SFAC, AFB provides funding to RSOs for events that are open to all student and conference travel.
CARS: Student Center Conference and Reservation Services. The office where students, faculty, and staff can request to reserve space in the Student Center, outdoor space, and classroom space for meetings and events.
CCA: Council for Cultural Activities. A university sponsored organization that promotes cultural awareness, diversity, and inclusion at the University of Houston by supporting cultural and diversity-related registered student organizations and events on campus.
CFSL: Center for Fraternity & Sorority Life. The office that advises the social Greek-letter organizations on campus and the five Greek councils.
CSI: Center for Student Involvement. The office that provides support to the registered student organizations, advises some of the university sponsored organizations, and provides leadership and civic engagement programs.
CSM: Center for Student Media. The office that advises The Cougar, the Student Video Network, and Coog Radio.
DOS: Dean of Students. The office that manages student discipline. Additionally, DOS signatories on several event registration processes and form, including the Alcohol Permit, the University Sponsorship form, and the Freedom of Expression form.
DSAES: Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services. The division that houses the Student Centers, Center for Student Involvement, Center for Diversity and Inclusion, LGBTQ Resource Center and more.
University Sponsored Organizations.These organizations are inherently linked to the university and are considered to be an integral part of the institution. University Sponsored Organizations receive student service fees through the Student Fees Advisory Committee. They typically have a close relationship with a university department that provides a full-time professional staff member to serve as the primary advisor to the sponsored organization. They are required to register their organization annually through the Center for Student Involvement at the University of Houston.
MAPP: Manual of Administrative Policies and Procedures. The compilation of policies and procedures for the staff and departments of the University of Houston.
MVP: Metropolitan Volunteer Program. University sponsored organization that coordinates volunteer opportunities on-and-off campus.
RSO’s:Registered Student Organizations ("RSOs") are unsponsored organizations that function independently from the University and are entitled to request minimal support from the University. They are private entities and are not extensions of the University. The RSOs may conduct the organizations' business on their own behalf, but they may not imply or suggest that they are representatives or agencies with authority to make decisions or speak on behalf of the University. These organizations are registered annually through the Center for Student Involvement at the University of Houston. In addition, they are required to have:
Faculty or Staff advisors that are acceptable to the University. The RSO advisors are volunteers that will exercise their duties independently of any duties that they may have with the University and not as representatives of the University.
A constitution that includes the anti-hazing clause and non-discrimination clause
At least three enrolled students at the University of Houston
SFAC: Student Fee Advisory Committee. Student led committee that reviews and recommends annual allocations of student fee dollars.
SGA: Student Government Association. University sponsored student organization that serves as a liaison between the students and the faculty/staff and administration. Elected representatives appoint students to University committees that have oversight for nearly all aspects of the University. Composed of three branches: legislative, executive, and judicial. Elections are held annually in late February.
SPB: Student Program Board. University sponsored student organization that does entertainment-based activities, including comedians, bands, novelties, movies, and special events. Annually hosts the Winter Wonderland tradition that takes place the first week of December.
SVN: Student Video Network. University sponsored student organization that programs original content for the UH Community.
