Return to Campus Requirements

Required Daily Health Assessment

Before Coming to Campus Each Day

  • Take your temperature
  • Conduct a self-assessment of your health/infection exposure
  • Assess whether you are exhibiting any Coronavirus Symptoms
Your presence on campus each day means that you have completed a daily assessment of your health/exposure and you:
  • Are NOT exhibiting any Coronavirus Symptoms (with the exception of symptoms related to a pre-existing medical condition or a medical diagnosis unrelated to COVID-19)
  • Have NOT tested positive for COVID-19
  • Have NOT knowingly been exposed to someone with COVID-19 or suspected/presumed COVID-19

If you exhibit any symptoms of COVID-19, do not come to campus. Follow the  COVID-19 Diagnosis/Symptoms Protocols. This does not apply to the presence of symptoms due to a pre-existing medical condition or a medical diagnosis unrelated to COVID-19.

If you have tested positive or been diagnosed with COVID-19, do not come to campus. Follow the  COVID-19 Diagnosis/Symptoms Protocols. You should also complete the form  Reporting COVID-19 Diagnosis. You will be required to  self-isolate and you may not return to campus until you meet the requirements set out in  Completion of Self-Quarantine/Isolation.

If you have knowingly been exposed to someone who has or is suspected/presumed to have COVID-19, do not come to campus, employees should notify their supervisor of potential exposure, and all faculty, staff and students must complete the form Reporting Potential COVID-19 Exposure. You may be advised to Self-Quarantine and you may not return to campus until you meet the requirements set out in Completion of Self-Quarantine/Isolation.


What to Expect:

  • Face coverings are required on campus unless an exception has been granted.
  • You are asked to maintain six feet of social distancing.
  • UH has established physical distancing reminders, enhanced cleaning and sanitization fixtures and procedures, and placed hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes in all offices and classrooms.
  • Classrooms, student residences, dining halls and other facilities have been reconfigured.
  • The University of Houston is partnering with the well-known testing company Curative to provide a free, walk-up kiosk on campus where faculty, students and staff can be tested regardless of whether they have symptoms. By appointment only, the testing service is located in front of the UH Student Center South and open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • The Student Health Center provides COVID-19 testing for students, faculty and staff who become symptomatic or have been identified as exposed on the UH campus, AND are participating in on-campus face-to-face courses, living or working on campus.   • UH regularly updates positive cases of COVID-19 among members of our UH community by posting these numbers on the Positive Case Reporting page.
  • UH contact tracers have and will continue to promptly notify anyone in our campus community identified, per CDC guidelines, as being a close contact to any individual on our campus known to have tested positive.

Working on Campus

If employees can effectively perform their duties remotely, they are asked to continue to do so. Division vice presidents will determine what on-campus staffing is required to provide the necessary support and services for their respective units.

Employee health—physical and mental—is important to the well-functioning of the university. Human Resources has issued new Guidelines for Flexibility in the Workplace that outlines a variety of possible options and alternatives, including a recently expanded version of the Family Medical Leave (FMLA) policy.

If you would like to work on campus or access your office, you may do so following (1) completion of the COVID 19 mandatory training; (2) passing a self-health screening test; and (3) informing your chair/supervisor about your desire to work from your office.

It is our goal to provide all services to students in person and online.

Current Operations

The University of Houston is operating under a two-plan strategy to remain flexible in the spring 2021 semester. Find more information on the Current Operations Plan page.

You should not return to campus until:

  • Human Resources or your supervisor informs you that you are expected to return to campus for work as part of the University’s phased reopening.
  • You have completed the Your Safe Return to Work in the Phased Reopening of Campus online training.
  • You have reviewed and acknowledged the Protocol and Certification for Employees to Return to Campus.

Even if the above have been met, you may not return to campus if you:

  • Have a diagnosis of or test positive for COVID-19;
  • Are currently exhibiting symptoms associated with COVID-19 (with the exception of symptoms related to a pre-existing medical condition);
  • Have recently returned from international travel;
  • Have had “close contact” with an infected person (within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period).

International Students & Travelers

Faculty, staff and students returning from international travel, university-sanctioned or personal, are required to follow the Return from International Travel guidelines upon return to the United States.

These requirements include international students who are traveling to the U.S. for spring classes.
