Major in Psychology

Students that wish to declare a major in Psychology may fill out a general petition in room 124 Heyne Building or you may download the form from this page and email your petition to a psychology advisor. No appointment is necessary for declaring a Psychology major.

Before you submit your petition please make sure you meet the following requirements:

1. A minimum UH GPA of 2.0

2. Must have completed PSYC 2301 (formerly 1300), 2305 (formerly 2301) and 3301 each with a grade of "C" or better. If you do not have all of these pre-requisite courses complete with the required grade you may declare Pre-Psychology.

3. Must be enrolled in a PSYC course at the time of major declaration.

4. No financial holds on your account

Information about a major in Psychology can be found in the Psychology Department Handbook located on this page. Please review the information on the website, the handbook and the B.A. or B.S. Degree Checklist before emailing an advisor for additional information.

Current UH students can make an appointment with a Psychology academic advisor through their myUH account. The advisor will answer your questions and concerns and will review the requirements for the major. The advisor and you will sketch out a curriculum plan, based on University-wide Core Curriculum choices, College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences guidelines, and Department of Psychology Guidelines.
