Diversity and Inclusion Resources at UH

The University of Houston’s commitment to diversity and inclusion manifests itself in a number of initiatives. Institutionally, there are Centers and Offices specifically geared towards supporting an environment of diversity and inclusion and contribute to an environment of health, well-being and productivity for all.  Specific resources include:

Center for Diversity and Inclusion

In the summer of 2013, the Multicultural Student Services Task Force was charged with identifying the feasibility of creating a new department/center that focuses on addressing the needs of the diverse University of Houston student population. Based on the information that the Multicultural Student Services Task Force obtained after benchmarking twenty-two institutions of higher education, reviewing existing multicultural programs and services, conducting a focus group with student leaders, and administering a campus-wide student survey, The Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) was created. The CDI fosters an inclusive university community by providing services, programs, and support that engage, empower, and educate our highly diverse student population and campus partners.

Center for ADVANCING Faculty Success

With the support of a $3,300,000 grant, the goal of the ADVANCE Center is to increase the number and success of women faculty in traditional science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and social/behavioral science (SBS) fields by recruiting, retaining and promoting more women and women of color, by increasing developmental opportunities geared towards developing women into administrative roles, and by creating a lasting infrastructure to facilitate work-life integration.

LGBTQ Resource Center

The University is home to a significant and well-connected LGBTQ community. The mission of the LGBTQ Resource Center is to cultivate safe spaces on campus and within our Center’s programs, empowering LGBTQ students to develop their authentic identity, and become proud, successful, engaged members of the UH community.

Center for Students with DisABILITIES

The Center for Students with DisABILITIES (CSD) office provides accommodations and support services to students who have temporary or permanent health impairments, physical limitations, psychiatric disorders, and/or learning disabilities.

The A.D. Bruce Religion Center

The A.D. Bruce Religion Center is the focal point for many on-campus religious and spiritual activities. Ongoing educational programs and activities focus on religious issues with an emphasis on Interfaith Dialogue. The Center offers a place for both quiet meditation and spiritual growth.
