October 3: Why WGSS Matters: A conversation with community & academic leaders

This event will be held from 11:30 – 1 p.m. at Rockwell Pavilion in UH MD Anderson Library. Panel members will be Deborah Duncan, TV host, Great Day Houston KHOU, Samantha Kwan, associate professor of sociology at UH, Annise Parker, former Mayor of Houston, and Anne Taylor, managing director of Deloitte. The moderator is Elizabeth Gregory, director of the Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies program at UH. read more

October 4: Fall 2016 CLASS career and internship fair

This career fair was designed specifically for CLASS students, but students from any major may attend. The career fair will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Student Center South. Participants must bring their UH student ID to check-in. Professional dress is required. read more

October 7: Center for Mexican American Studies luncheon

CMAS’s annual luncheon will feature keynote speaker Dr. Laura Murillo, President and CEO of the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Proceeds from the event benefit students in the Center for Mexican American Studies Academic Achiever’s Program. The Luncheon will be at The Junior League of Houston, Inc, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. read more

October 13: Undergraduate research day 2016

The Office of Undergraduate Research’s 12th annual Undergraduate Research Day will take place at 4 p.m. in the Elizabeth D. Rockwell Pavilion, M.D. Anderson Library, and the Honors College. Approximately 200 undergraduates will present posters and oral projects at this event. learn more

October 15: Communication Sciences and Disorders graduate program open house

The graduate program will host a fall information session from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Cameron Hall, room 101. Interested applicants will have the opportunity to hear information about the graduate program and ask questions. read more

October 21: Critical Language Friday – General information meeting

Come learn about two programs that are fully funded by the federal government: the Department of State’s Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) and the Department of Defense’s Boren Awards. Both are competitive programs that will pay your way to mastering a foreign language that the U.S. government identifies as critical to U.S. interests. A general information meeting will be held at 2 p.m. in Agnes Arnold Hall, room 217. read more

October 27: McGovern Lecture series welcomes Dr. Mark Anthony Neal

The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences has invited noted expert on masculinity and culture Dr. Mark Anthony Neal to give the 2016 Dr. John P. McGovern Endowed Lecture in Family, Health, and Human Values on October 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the UC Theater. Dr. Neal is professor of African & African American Studies and the founding director of the Center for Arts, Digital Culture and Entrepreneurship (CADCE) at Duke University. His topic for this lecture is Black Masculinities in American Culture. The 2016 McGovern Lecture is arranged and hosted by UH’s Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies Program and is a collaborative effort with university partners, including the Center for Diversity and Inclusion. read more
