Awards to Honor Distinguished Public Officials of the Houston Metropolitan Area

The University of Houston Master of Public Administration (MPA) Program every year honors public officials who “exhibit qualities consistent with those of our program – trust, accountability, performance, ethical decision making and crossing jurisdictional boundaries to solve problems,” explains MPA Program Director Dr. James Thurmond.

This year’s honorees are:

  • Rodney Ellis, Harris County Commissioner
  • Bob Hebert, Fort Bend County Judge
  • Paul A. Hofmann, Bellaire City Manager
  • Allen Owen, Mayor of Missouri City

The keynote speaker will be Bob Eury, CEO of Central Houston, and the late Peter H. Brown will be honored with the MPA Pioneer Award. Brown is a U.H. alumnus and former adjunct professor, Houston city councilmember, and founder and director of Better Houston.

The UH MPA program focuses on working collaboratively to address issues such as health care, education and the environment. It works to increase community service efforts while also honoring those who have laid the groundwork for public service throughout the years.
