The MPA program has a forty-year history of development since it was chartered by the State of Texas. Our 313 (1968 to 2008) graduates have found rewarding positions across a broad spectrum of organizations. These include, first-and-foremost, local governments but also non-profits and private sector corporations. A profile of the jobs and organizations of our graduates, as shown below, supports the conclusion that UH’s MPA program is a leading educator of public servants.

Deputy Assistant Director at Houston Public Works
City of Houston

The University of Houston's MPA program was an influential process that successfully prepared me for a career in public service. This program has provided me with the analytical and applied skills to accomplish the daily and long range tasks of working for the City of Houston. The ability to produce sophisticated policy analysis and evaluation, understand principles of urban management, and recognize organizational cultures and processes are among some of the important skills, that are taught through the MPA program, that are a great asset to me and the work that I do. I would highly recommend this program to anyone seeking a career in government, or non-profit business.
