Images From The Cougar Cup Wheelchair Rugby Tournament

HHP's student organization Adaptive Athletics at UH hosted the Cougar Cup wheelchair rugby camp from Jan 31st to Feb 2nd, 2014 on the UH main campus. 8 teams comprising of 70 athletes from all over the world participated in 30 minute games of wheelchair rugby, also referred to as "Murder ball" for the intense and aggressive play. The games were refereed and sanctioned by the United States Quad Rugby Association.

HHP faculty and Adaptive Athletics program director Dr. Michael Cottingham, HHP faculty Dr. Daphne Hernandez and doctoral student Stephanie Silveira collected data for a research study on the quality of health of athletes with disabilities.

The participating teams were: Chicago Bears,  Houston Texas Rugby, Denver Harlequins, San Antonio Steel, Brooks Bandits (Florida), Pittsburgh Steelwheelers, Switzerland Fighting Snakes and Calgary Inferno. Houston Texas Rugby defeated Calgary Inferno in the championship game and won the Cougar Cup for 2014.
