GenWellness Mentorship Program at HHP.

During the week of June 8th -11th, 2009 The Department of Health and Human Performance faculty and staff hosted student participants from the Houston Wellness Association’s (HWA) GenWellness Project. The GenWellness Project encourages Houston sophomores and junior high school student to become engaged in wellness, as well as expose them to careers in health and wellness.

HHP Activity Program Coordinator Jessica Wheeler and Visiting Assistant Professor Dr. Lisa Alastuey mentored students at the HHP worksite exposing these future professionals to what they and the HHP organization does in the area of health and wellness. Students shadowing Ms. Wheeler and Dr. Alastuey participated in a variety of HHP activity and lecture courses offered, visited with other faculty and staff, and toured the HHP department, its exercise and obesity laboratories, and the UH campus.
