University of Houston Awards
These CLASS faculty members were recognized on April 26, 2012 at the Faculty Excellence Awards ceremony:
H. Julia Hannay, Moores Professor of Psychology, has earned the 2012 Esther Farfel Award, a symbol of overall career excellence and the highest honor the University of Houston bestows on a faculty member. The annual award carries a cash prize of $10,000. Read more |
Cynthia Freeland, Professor and Chair of the Department of Philosophy, has been named a Moores Professor. This five-year renewable award is given to faculty who are outstanding in teaching, research and service. The recipient is awarded a $10,000 annual stipend. Read more |
Kevin Rigdon, Professor and Head of Graduate Design in the School of Theatre and Dance, has been named a Moores Professors. This five-year renewable award is given to faculty who are outstanding in teaching, research and service. The recipient is awarded a $10,000 annual stipend. Read more |
This award recognizes a demonstrated excellence in supporting undergraduate research efforts and encourages mentoring relationships with undergraduate students. This is a career award open to faculty members from all departments. The recipient is honored with a trophy and a $5,000 prize.

Two awards each at the Assistant Professor and Associate Professor rank are presented individuals who have demonstrated great potential (Assistant Professor) or established a growing record (Associate Professor) of outstanding research, scholarship or creative contributions. Two awards at the Full Professor rank are presented to individuals who have complied a substantial continuing record of outstanding research, scholarship or creative activities. Each recipient receives a trophy and a $5,000 prize.

This award recognizes groups of faculty in both formal and informal programs who demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and student success. A cash prize of $30,000 is distributed among the members of a group of faculty who have who have worked together collaboratively in the design, implementation and evaluation of a course or a series of courses to improve student outcomes and who demonstrate effective and innovative teaching over a three year period of time.
