Public Transportation

In the Greater Houston area, bus, lightrail, and shared-ride public transit services are operated by METRO. Fare for local buses or METRORail is $1.25.

If you will frequently ride buses or lightrails, consider getting a METRO Q Card. It is a contactless smart card used to ride on METRO Bus, METRORail, and METROLift. With a METRO Q Card, one gets free unlimited transfers in any direction for up to three hours.

LCC students may apply for a discounted METRO Q Card which offers a 50 percent discount on all bus and light-rail services. Follow these steps to apply:

  1. Send an email to LCC@uh.edu and request an enrollment verification letter for the METRO Q Card. Please allow at least one business day for the letter to be processed. The LCC will let you know once the letter is ready for pickup.
