The Valenti School of Communication is excited to have hosted six students and Professor Daniel Ng from Cheung Kong College of Journalism and Communication at Shantou University.

Shantou University is located in southeast China. This trip highlighted our school’s commitment to building partnerships with universities around the world. The visit was jointly coordinated by Larry Kelley, an instructional assistant professor at the Valenti School, and Professor Ng.

As part of their two week stay in Houston, the students gained a deeper understanding of how strategic communication works by shadowing a variety of advertising, public relations and media production classes at the Valenti School of Communication.

The group also visited advertising agencies and media companies in the Houston market and met with local advertising professionals. These industry opportunities were co-organized by the University of Houston American Advertising Federation (AAF) club and the Houston professional chapter of AAF.

This trip was part of an annual exchange. Last year, Professor Kelley spent 10 days at Shantou University as a guest lecturer, and Professor Ng led a different group of Shantou students on a similar visit to Houston.
