History
In 1972, the Council of Ethnic Organizations (CEO) was formed under the Student Program Board (SPB). CEO mainly offered its services through programming. In 2015, they shifted to provide more support to Registered Student Organizations to promote culture on campus. However, due to the term “ethnic” in its title, the council felt that it was limited to the variety of cultures it had the potential to provide for. So, in 2017, the Council of Ethnic Organizations underwent a name change in order to expand its services...and thus the Council for Cultural Activities was born! CCA then adopted four signature events - Cultural Taste of Houston, Cultural Explosion, Cultural Marketplace, and Carnival of Cultures- at the University of Houston. CCA also continues to offer its service of event co-sponsorship to any organization that seeks to celebrate, explore, serve, or educate on the group’s shared language, beliefs, cuisines, traditions, or social identity.
