Remembering the 1977 National Women’s Conference: A 45th Anniversary Celebration
Thursday, November 17, 2022
5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
The Heritage Society, in collaboration with the Sharing Stories from 1977 team, will host an event on Thursday November 17 from 5-7 pm. Beginning at 5, visitors will meet at the historical marker located on the outside wall of the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts (near the intersection of Walker and Bagby Streets). We will re-create the torch runners’ entrance to Houston for a photo op. Guests will then walk over to the Heritage Museum (1100 Bagby) for a discussion about the National Women’s Conference and the Sharing Stories from 1977 digital humanities project. Distinguished speakers include former mayor Annise Parker, Dr. Nancy Beck Young and Dr. Leandra Zarnow, Sharing Stories co-directors at the University of Houston, Dr. Karen Kossie-Chernyshev, of Texas Southern University, and several University of Houston students. UH students will also be on-site gathering oral histories. 1970s attire is encouraged but not required.
