What is ALLY?
You may or may not be aware of ALLY capabilities inside your courses. ALLY helps all courses understand the rate of accessible documents inside course content. Each faculty member plays a necessary role in ensuring that our digital learning material is compliant with the UHS Electronic and Information Resources Accessibility (“EIRA”) Policy (SAM 01.D.13) as well as federal and state law, and their assistance is essential to fostering an inclusive learning environment where students of all abilities can fully participate in their courses to achieve academic success.
Why is it important?
The University of Houston System is committed to providing a learning environment that affords equal access and opportunity to otherwise qualified students with disabilities.
The University has a variety of resources to help faculty create accessible course content, including EIRA Resources, and by searching the FDIS and Instruction websites for the terms “ALLY” and “Accessibility”. Additionally, you can receive assistance with course content remediation by reaching out to Equal Opportunity Services, Faculty and Departmental Instructional Support (FDIS), your Instructional Designers, and the Justin Dart, Jr. Student Accessibility Center.
For information about utilizing Blackboard Ally to increase accessibility scores, please see the Blackboard Ally training video offered on the Office of Equal Opportunity Services’ website.
