Come celebrate Professors Matthew J. Clavin and David McNally on the publication of their books! “The Battle of Negro Fort: The Rise and Fall of a Fugitive Slave Community” (Clavin) explores a powerful symbol of black freedom that subverted the racist foundations of American slave society. “Blood and Money: War, Slavery, Finance and Empire” (McNally) uncovers the true story of money’s origins and its connection to the buying and selling of slaves.
This event features special talks by Beverly Tomek (Associate Professor of History at UH Victoria) and Cinzia Arruzza (Associate Professor of Philosophy at the New School for Social Research). Light refreshments will be served.
