The BTI Institute and the Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management at the University of Houston hosted training on the topic of Human Trafficking Indicators for members of the hospitality industry in the Greater Houston area on January 10 and 18, prior to the 2017 NFL Super Bowl. The training sessions were conducted by Kirsta Melton, Deputy Criminal Chief, Human Trafficking and Transnational Organized Crime Section, from the Office of the Attorney General of Texas.

The presentations highlighted actual human trafficking cases in Texas. Training focused on those indicators of human trafficking particular to the hospitality industry and recommended reporting procedures.

In an effort to institutionalize such training in the educational curricula of future leaders in the hospitality industry, the BTI Institute will partner with the UH’s Hilton College to develop a curriculum offering on the topic of “Human Trafficking Indictors and Reporting Procedures.”

Once completed, this class will be provided free of charge to other colleges and universities who provide education to students seeking careers in the hospitality industry.
