MORNING AFTER PILLS We are not discussing RU486 (mifepristone), which is an abortafact (abortion in a capsule) used up to the 9th week of pregnancy. RU486 is not considered contrception and is not available in the U.S. The "Morning after pill" (progesterone & estrogen), or "Plan B" (progesterone only) prevent conception within 72 hrs of intercourse. From the info on the Feminist Majority Foundation website, it appears that, while doctors have been using birth control pills for this purpose for a while, it has only been approved by the FDA in the last few years. So until the FDA allowed it, nothing could be marketed or sold as a morning after pill.
