New Digital Equipment Expands UH Printing's Capabilities

New Digital Equipment Expands UH Printing's Capabilities

Houston, April 12, 2018 - University of Houston Printing Services has a new state-of-the-art digital printing system that greatly expands the scope and type of printing jobs that can be completed for customers.

The Ricoh Pro C7100sx, which was delivered and installed in January, is part of the newest line of cutting edge digital printers on the market today.

It is a five-station digital color production print system that has the ability to print with clear and white toner, in addition to the standard CMYK four-color system. That means white ink can be used to print on colored paper for a whole host of different type jobs, from brochures and flyers to business cards to envelopes. For example, by using the white ink capability on silver or gold paper, spot metallic features can be created.

The clear ink feature allows for water marks and spot gloss to be incorporated into printing jobs.

In addition to the white and clear printing capabilities, the new equipment is able to accommodate larger paper sizes that are not available on the older printing equipment. It can also print on textured and transparent media. On top of all that, it can print jobs more quickly, up to 90 pages per minute.

Printing Manager Nalan Giannukos is excited about the innovative and expanded printing capabilities that the new equipment presents.

"These new capabilities greatly expand the possibilities of what we can offer our customers and lifts many of the limitations and challenges we used to face," Giannukos said. "Customers are going to be excited when they learn what they can now create."
