Houston, April 10, 2018 - Maria Honey, assistant director of marketing and communications for the University of Houston Office of Administration, has been named secretary of the Gulf Coast region of the Texas Association of Chicanos in Higher Education. Honey (pictured second from the right) is a member of TACHE's Houston chapter. She and the other regional officers were elected during TACHE's state conference, which was held Feb. 28-March 3 in Dallas. "I was honored to be nominated and voted in by my fellow TACHE members. It was an opportunity that I could not pass up," she said. "I look forward to supporting the TACHE Gulf Coast region and participating in the important discussions and activities that will be planned for the coming year." According to its website, TACHE is a professional association committed to the improvement of educational and employment opportunities for Chicanos in higher education. Its purpose is to provide state, regional, and local forums for the discussion of issues related to Chicanos in higher education and to collaborate with institutions of higher learning to create workable solutions for these issues. Honey and the other officers of the Gulf Coast region will help provide an array of opportunities for members, such as networking, professional and career development, education, and community engagement. They also will work with TACHE's state board on ways to engage in advocacy work that are of importance to members. "Maria Honey is a seasoned and committed professional at our institution. Her almost 10 years of tenure in management roles and her drive to advance her education speaks to the leadership and professionalism she exhibits every day," said Sandra Armstrong, executive director for Human Resource Operations.
