Electronic Access Control Plays an Important Role on Campus

Houston, March 30, 2017 — The scope of the keyless access upgrade project at the University of Houston is to provide increased security and safety by deploying electronic access controls, door status monitoring/security systems and rekeying the perimeter access points of all major campus buildings.

Effective physical and electronic security is essential in providing security, access and protection to University students, staff and faculty, along with their assets.

"As we continue to add access controlled points, we value your thoughts and feedback. We would love to hear from you as we build on our system and work to create a culture across UH that embodies the safety practices not only with physical infrastructure but also with human practices," said Electronic Access Control Manager Ronald Harris.

"Our goal to provide keyless access has progressed and adds us the ability to monitor and control access to many of our buildings. With this growth, we are asking that you help us with keeping our buildings, staff, faculty, students and assets safe," Harris said. "If you see an exterior door unsecure, either with an article of some sort hindering the door from closing or the door may not be functioning correctly, please notify the building coordinator, create a FIXIT service request or contact UHPD."

Members of the UH community should let their building coordinator know if they see something out of the ordinary within their respective building. Once it is reported, that becomes the first step in letting the Electronic Access Control department know when there is something that needs to be checked out. The Electronic Access Control department will repair the system as needed while following safety practices across campus.
