UH Representatives Attend Funeral of Former HFD Captain

dowling funeral

Houston, March 22, 2017 — Members of the Fire Safety Unit within the University of Houston Environmental Health & Life Safety Department were among hundreds from different supporting agencies who attended the funeral of former Houston Fire Department Capt. William Dowling.

Dowling died March 7 from complications stemming from the 2013 fire, which took his voice and both his legs. The fire was the deadliest in HFD's history, claiming the lives of four other firefighters. His funeral was held March 15.

HFD Executive Assistant Chief Richard Mann was quoted as saying, "Although we know Capt. Dowling is in a better place and he's with the other four firefighters that were lost on that fateful day, we will greatly miss the inspiration that he has been to all of us. He may be gone, but he will never ever be forgotten."
