Houston, Nov. 17, 2017 — UH Parking and Transportation presented at the C3X 2017 Conference and Expo, which gathered auxiliary services professionals from across the country to discuss and collaborate on a number of topics important to higher learning organizations. The UH presentation was about the Coogs On Alternative and Sustainable Transportation program - known as COAST - which was launched in spring 2015. COAST offers financial incentives to UH faculty, staff and students for using alternative transportation to get to campus. UH Parking and Transportation Director Bob Browand and Assistant Director Eric Holamon spoke about the release of the COAST program, including how its structure was developed, the role of marketing and communications, and how data is used to assess its success. This information was aimed to help other institutions plan a similar program that they could bring to their campuses. "We have already seen COAST make positive impacts on the UH campus and we believe this will only continue to grow each year," said Browand. "We are happy to be part of the discussion surrounding the need for alternative transportation on university campuses and are glad that in doing so we can bring UH into the spotlight on a national scale." Since its launch, COAST has gained 1,960 members, offsetting the need for about 1,225 parking spaces. Currently, it offers incentives to faculty, staff and students for using METRO services or for maintaining a carpool of three or more people in their commute to campus. Plans call for expanding the program later this year to offer options for those who need to drive to campus some days each week but want to utilize alternative transportation the other days.
