A&F GAINS LONG-TIME UH LOYAL

After 22 years of service to the University of Houstons academics, Pat Sayles brings her expertise to Administration and Finance. Sayles began her work as the new Director of Business Services on January 18.

Sayles began her service to UH with Arte Publico Press, where she worked for 10 years. She then moved to the Small Business Development Center for two years, the College of Humanities, Fine Arts and Communications for two years and then spent the past eight years as a part of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences team.

Over the years, I have seen UH mature as a university, Sayles said. The maturity has involved the recruiting of an administration who believes in our mission, recruiting outstanding faculty, an increase in the diversity of our student body and the physical growth and maturity of the campus. It has been a joy to watch.

As the Director of Business Services, Sayles will be responsible for the administrative, financial and human resources operations for areas within her department including budgets and other fiscal and administrative activities.

My employment at UH previously has always been on the academic side of the university, she said. I am looking forward to working on the finance and administration side, meeting new people and learning new things.

Before UH, Sayles worked for her alma mater, Texas Tech University, and also spent six years as an auditor for the Texas Department of Human Services. She grew up in New Deal, Texas, a small town north of Lubbock. When Sayles leaves the UH campus and returns to her home, she has found another passion to keep her busy.

My hobby is training my dogs to do performance events such as agility, obedience and tracking. I have four beagles which range in age from 15 years to 9 months, she said.
