Energy Presentation Shines Light On UH's Sustainability Efforts
A presentation
regarding how the University of
Houston has made strides when it
comes to energy efficiency and
sustainability was recently held at
the Clean Air through Energy
Efficiency Conference. Sameer A.
Kapileshwari, director of Utility
Services, along with Cole Robinson
of Controls Unlimited, LLC,
co-presented Being Green and Energy
Efficient in Difficult Economic
Times on October 15, 2009 at the
Renaissance Greenway Plaza in
Houston. UHs portion of the
presentation focused on how weve
managed to successfully improve
energy upgrades in the past decade.
For example, in 2009, under the
guidance of the Sustainability Task
Force, UH has achieved several
accomplishments such as drafting a
sustainability policy, adopting
AASHE guidelines (Association for
Advancement of Sustainability in
Higher Education), working on the
universitys carbon footprint
calculation, and continuing energy
conservation/retro-commissioning
efforts.
The presentation also unveiled the
Task Forces 2010 goals regarding
including sustainability information
in the new student orientation
sessions, and promoting campus wide
sustainability events that encourage
the participation of the entire
campus.
In addition, discussion was held
regarding a case study involving the
UH School of Architecture and the
measures implemented to improve
efficiency of the Gerald Hines
building.
