THE WAFFLE BUS PUTS A NEW TWIST ON AN OLD CLASSIC
Chicken and waffles is a dish that has been around for
centuries. While its exact roots are uncertain, many believe the
sweet and savory combination originated in the late 1700s to
early 1800s.
The Waffle Bus is a food truck that is putting a new spin on
that classic dish, offering a menu that includes a chicken and
waffle sandwich, but on a savory waffle and with spicy mayo or
ancho chili honey.
Phi Nguyen, a UH graduate of business administration, opened the
truck in January and quickly gained many fans.
We have gained a very loyal following in a short amount of
time, said Nguyen. Obviously Houston loves waffles. We were
even recently filmed by The Food Network for their show Eat St.
Other key menu items from The Waffle Bus include the Waffle
Burger, Fryders (chicken or burger sliders with waffle fries for
the bun), and desserts such as the Nutella and Banana or Smores
waffles.
Upcoming for The Waffle Bus is a second truck that will be
larger and built to better fit the needs of the UH campus.
Scheduled to be finished this summer, that truck will allow the
current one to return to the streets of Houston where the
company got its start.
