First-ever Earth Week Planned for April 17-26

Earth Week calendarEvery April 22, people across the world take time to stop and celebrate the planet and all that it offers on Earth Day. This year, however, the UH Office of Sustainability is working hard to extend that celebration from just one day to a whole week of festivities with the first-ever UH Earth Week.

In the past, the office worked to coordinate one big, all-day festival to commemorate the annual event, but decided to go in a different direction this year.

“The focus of the week will be environmental sustainability and the earth – how we take care of it, protect it and conserve it,” said Sarah Kelly, program manager for the Office of Sustainability. “We’ll have a wide variety of events for the campus community to attend, including informative movie screenings, outdoor treks and crafting events, so regardless of their interests, people should be able to find an Earth Week activity that appeals to them.”

At the end of the week, an outdoor backpack will be raffled off to one lucky person who participated in at least one activity throughout the week. Individuals who attend four or more Earth Week events will receive a free T-shirt.
