Plan to Reduce Paper Waste Wins RecycleMania Competition


bigideacontestwinnerThe winning team in the 2015 UH RecycleMania What’s the Big Idea contest has been revealed.

Kourosh Zakeri and Laurel Rawley worked together to come up with a proposal for reducing paper waste at the College of Optometry.

The competition was for groups of two to nine students, faculty or staff. Teams were asked to propose an idea to the Office of Sustainability and Solid Waste and Recycling to improve recycling or reduce waste on campus.

The entries were judged on how well the idea was communicated, the feasibility of implementing the idea on campus, and how impactful the idea would be on campus waste diversion.

For winning the contest, Zakeri and Rawley received a prize package.
