The University of Houston’s two newest parking garages now have names.
Garage 5 is the Elgin Street Garage. Garage 6, which is under construction at University Drive and Spur 5, will be the University Gateway Garage when it opens in fall 2020.
Together, the two garages are adding approximately 5,000 parking spaces to campus. In addition, the Elgin Street Garage will have retail and office space, with construction on that phase continuing.
The two garages will also be the first UH parking facilities to have electric vehicle charging stations.
As the campus has grown, Parking and Transportation has been working diligently to meet the increasing demand for parking spaces by building parking garages strategically located across campus.
The University Gateway Garage marks the sixth over the past 14 years. The first to be built was the Welcome Center Garage, which opened in 2006. That was followed by the East Garage in 2009, the Stadium Garage in 2012, the Welcome Center Student Garage in 2013, and then the Elgin Street Garage this past fall.
