2016-2017 Parking Preview – Part 2: Campus Changes

By: Bob Browand
As mentioned last week, there will be several changes to the University’s parking plan taking effect starting in the fall, as part of our ten-year strategic plan.
Last week we explored some of the changes that will be affecting parking permits. This week, let’s explore how campus itself will be changing.
Parking Lots 16E and 20C
Currently lots 16E and 20C (both pictured separately below), are designated as Economy lots; however, beginning in August, these lots will now be converted to Student parking lots, meaning until 4 p.m. Monday - Friday, individuals in these lots MUST have a valid Student Academic Year parking permit displayed from the vehicles rearview mirror.
After 4 p.m., individuals with an economy permit may utilize these lots.

Leek Street Lots
In 2010, while the Stadium Parking Garage was being constructed, Parking and Transportation Services received permission from the University to convert what was then vacant lots into temporary gravel parking facilities 16H, 16I and 16J. Now, however, as part of the agreement, the department must return these lots to green space. The transformation will begin to take place on Sunday, May 15, 2016, so at that time, these lots will permanently go offline.
Improvements to lots 4A, 9B, 19C and the Bayou Oaks lots
Over the summer, these lots will all receive necessary maintenance work. Asphalt will be added to the gravel areas of these lots to help improve driving conditions.
ERP Expansion
Over the summer, 1,000 temporary parking spaces will be added to ERP. These are considered temporary spaces, as they will only be available for 18 months.
Garage 5 timeline
Garage 5 planning is underway and we anticipate to break ground on the new 2,400-space parking facility at the end of 2016. The new garage is scheduled to open for the Fall 2018 semester and construction will impact lot 18A.
