Catering on Cullen Provides Services During GOP Debate

Catering on Cullen at DebateCatering on Cullen provided catered meals and refreshments for CNN, Google, Telemundo and many others during the Feb. 25 Republican presidential debate held at the University of Houston.

As the campus was buzzing with excitement with the announcement of UH being the host site for the debate, the Catering on Cullen team was busy behind the scenes booking orders for candidates and major news organizations. Many of the orders were placed days before the event with little time to prepare.

“We received 22 percent of our orders 48 hours prior to the day of the event,” said Shannon Church, director of catering. “It was our biggest undertaking thus far and it was such a thrill.”

With 54 orders and over 3,800 guests to serve, the Catering on Cullen team was busy from sun up to sun down on the day of the debate. Guests enjoyed Texas barbecue and build-your-own fajitas, as well as local dessert offerings from Goode Company and Crave Cupcakes.

“It was a wonderful opportunity to participate in this historical moment for the University,” said Church. “In all of my years in catering, this is the best event I have had the pleasure of being a part of.”

Other catered events included providing refreshments in the green rooms prior to the beginning of the debate as well as providing meals for the various security teams throughout the day.
