Finals Mania to Give Weary Students a Break from Studies

Finals Mania 1Toting backpacks bogged down with textbooks and their minds spinning with a semester’s worth of knowledge, they will descend on the M.D. Anderson Library’s Elizabeth D. Rockwell Pavilion.

From all corners of campus they will come, ready to take a welcome break from the weariness of studying for final exams by wolfing down a plate of freshly-made pancakes and turkey sausage while sharing a laugh or two with friends.

Altogether, close to 1,700 students are expected to take advantage of the twice-a-year tradition known as Finals Mania, which will be held Monday, May 2, from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m.

Many students start lining up close to an hour beforehand so they can be among the first to be served the pancakes, turkey sausage, coffee, orange juice and a variety of snacks. All UH students are welcome to attend. All they need to bring with them is their student ID.

Finals Mania 2“Finals Mania was launched in 2008 and ever since, it has grown and become even better than before,” said Leighanne Dean, marketing coordinator for Auxiliary Services. “Every UH student should experience how awesome it is at least one time before graduating.”

Members of the UH band, as they always have, will kick off the event by performing several songs from the second-floor balcony. Sasha, Shasta and the Cougar Dolls will also be there. After the band plays, the food line will open. Students will be able to choose either plain, blueberry or chocolate chip pancakes. A wide variety of toppings will be available, including strawberries, whipped cream, butter and syrup.

Finals Mania is sponsored by Auxiliary Services, Dining Services, UH Libraries, Faithful Paws, Canteen Vending and Coca-Cola.
