UH Dietitian Takes Part in Hispanic Healthy Coalition of Houston Event

University of Houston Dining Services Dietitian Travis Ramirez participated in the sixth annual Hispanic Health Coalition of Houston’s 5K run/walk and health fair.

BOUNCE, a nutrition and wellness program, partnered with The Hispanic Health Coalition for the event, which took place Nov. 7 in Mason Park. After the race, participants enjoyed a variety of healthy snacks that were donated by UH Dining Services.

“UH Dining donated granola bars, trail mix, peanut butter crackers, bananas and bottled water to the participants who completed the 5K walk/run event,” Ramirez said.

The event offered participants the option to take part in the health fair, which featured healthy heart screenings as well as glucose and blood pressure screenings. Flu shots, vision checks and dental services also were provided.

“After a participant completed their screenings, I would offer complimentary nutritional counseling,” Ramirez said. “I worked with several individuals to create nutritional plans that would meet their needs and create a healthier lifestyle.”
