Lot 15B Closing to Make Room for Basketball Practice Facility

Lot 15B closing

Construction on a new basketball practice facility will impact parking lot 15B outside of Hofheinz Pavilion.

The small ungated faculty/staff lot at the northwest corner of Cullen and Holman will close permanently after Friday, Aug. 8. Those who have been using the lot will have several other options available to them, including nearby lot 15C, which is located in front of Melcher Gymnasium. In addition, a new faculty/staff ungated lot will open at the southeast corner of Scott and Holman once construction on TDECU Stadium is completed.

"We appreciate the patience of the members of the UH community who have been utilizing lot 15B," said Bob Browand, director of Parking and Transportation Services. "Once the football stadium is completed in a few short weeks, there will be many more parking spaces available to them in that area of campus."

Lot 15B, which has 38 parking spaces, is needed to make way for the $20 million basketball practice facility, which will wrap around the southeast corner of Hofheinz Pavilion. Construction is slated to be completed in August 2015.

The new facility will have two basketball courts for the men's and women's teams to utilize. The first floor will also include a training room, strength-conditioning area, and non-staff lockers for such personnel as graduate assistants, trainers and managers. The second floor will have the team spaces, including the locker rooms, equipment rooms, lounges and film-study rooms. The third floor will comprise offices for all the coaches.
