Student Workers a Great Asset to UH Sports & Entertainment

student-workers1From football games to concerts, the UH Sports & Entertainment department has no shortage of events to plan and manage. To help with its efforts, the new group looked no further than UH’s capable student body for assistance.

Through a series of on-campus job fairs, the department recruited more than a dozen student workers to its crew, all of whom assist with event coordination and operations in some way. Holding the title of event attendant, the new part-time employees can be found doing a myriad of tasks before, during and after events, including setting up chairs, breaking down tables or working concessions.

“It has been great having the students’ assistance,” said Jeff Kossow, executive director of UH Sports & Entertainment. “All of them have been extremely eager to work and are a wonderful asset to our team.”

Although originally hired as seasonal help for the inaugural football season in TDECU Stadium, the students actually have the opportunity to stay onboard throughout the spring semester if they so choose.

“Having the students on the team during football season was a tremendous help, so we’d love to have them stick around to help with basketball games and other events,” said Kossow. “This is a great opportunity not only for us as it provides extra help, but also for the students who are gaining real-world working experience without even having to leave campus.”
