1501: Elementary Japanese I
Cr. 5. (3-2). Introduction to modern spoken and written Japanese. Emphasis on oral skills with initial presentation of the written language.

1502: Elementary Japanese II
Cr. 5. (3-2). Prerequisite: completion of JPNS 1501 with a minimum grade of C- in twelve months immediately prior to enrollment or placement by examination immediately prior to enrollment. Introduction to modern spoken and written Japanese. Continued development of oral skills with increased emphasis on the written language.

2501: Intermediate Japanese I
Cr. 5. (3-2). Prerequisite: completion of JPNS 1502 with a minimum grade of C- in twelve months immediately prior to enrollment or placement by examination immediately prior to enrollment. Maintenance of oral skills with emphasis on written skills.

2502: Intermediate Japanese II
Cr. 5. (3-2). prerequisite: completion of JPNS 2501 with a minimum grade of C- in twelve months immediately prior to enrollment or placement by examination immediately prior to enrollment. Maintenance of oral skills with emphasis on written skills.
