Mission / Objectives

The College of Education is committed to the preparation of teachers, counselors, school and higher education administrators, and professionals for a wide variety of educational settings, including social agencies, business, and government. Because of the university's urban setting, students will have opportunities to work with learners in a wide variety of educational settings.


Accreditation

The College of Education is accredited on probation by the State Board for Educator Certification and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and is a member of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education.


Departmental Information

Each of the four departments of the college focuses on a specific aspect of professional education. The major entitled Interdisciplinary Studies is housed within the Curriculum and Instruction department; two majors, Health and Kinesiology, are housed in the Health and Human Performance department.

The Department of Health and Human Performance offers courses under three headings: health (HLT), physical education basic instruction program (PEB), and kinesiology (KIN). Physical Education Fees

Students registering for physical education courses in which one semester hour credit is received must pay $20 each semester.

Students will be provided with a clean towel and clean gym uniform (except shoes) for each class and for any other time when they participate in physical education activities while attending the university.
