- 1. Each student must write a weekly short paper on the assigned readings. This paper may involve simple exegesis of a complex argument, or it might involve criticisms, questions, and/or comparisons. Aim at one page; may be hand-written. Ungraded, but if you miss more than 3 you cannot receive an "A" for the course; if you miss more than 6 you cannot receive a "B"; and more than 9, ditto for a "C", etc.
- 2. AND a seminar report in class discussing an assigned secondary reading on the topic for that week's seminar. Students may choose their date/topic. The seminar report should take 10-20 minutes and should present in outline form the main ideas of a secondary article. The seminar report also means that the student will launch the class discussion of the assigned article/topic. The seminar report should be accompanied by a one-page outline, xeroxed for everyone.
- 3. AND a seminar paper/s. Two options, choose one:
- A. (Graduate students only) A seminar paper, 10-20 pages in length, discussing a topic in some depth and referring to at least two secondary sources. Relevant deadlines: Topic statement due October 16, outline and meeting with me before October 30, draft due November 13, final version due December 6.
- OR B. (All students) Two shorter papers of 7-10 pages each, one on a topic from Part One of the course (cosmology, ontology, theology, epistemology, metaphysics), due October 23, and one on Part Two (ethics and political philosophy), due December 6.
