*Logical Positivism and Psychological Science*

*If Logical Positivism was the pariah that so many claim, why was the
movement supported by some of the best minds of the 20th century such as
Einstein, Hilbert, Mach, Freud, etc. (cf. figure below)? The answer: The
doctrine was both a movement to unify science on the basis of specified
foundations and a theory of science.  The foundational doctrines were
flawed as is the case with all such doctrines.  They must be revised and
updated as their limitations are revealed by analysis and empirical
findings.  Compared to most contemporary deconstructionist theories of
science, an updated positivist view has much to recommend it.  A
properly updated positivist view would recognize that some limited set
of scientific objects are, in fact, social constructions.*
