Welcome To The Home Page of Russell A. Geanangel

Professor of Chemistry

University of Houston, Houston, TX

This site contains information relating to my teaching and research activities. Some of it requires the Adobe Acrobat Reader or browser plug-in for viewing. If you don't have it already, download it from www.adobe.com/. Acrobat is a great way to communicate and the Reader is free! This site is perpetually under construction so wear your hard hat and be careful where you step. Thanks are due John Butler for his great html workshops and UH Mole seminars.

Teaching Activities   My classroom teaching has lately focussed on two chemistry courses:

CHEM 1331 General Chemistry (3 sh) Introductory chemistry for science majors. My lecture notes for CHEM 1331 may be viewed or downloaded.

CHEM 1332 General Chemistry (3 sh) Introductory chemistry for science majors. My lecture notes for CHEM 1332 may be viewed or downloaded.

CHEM 4365 Inorganic Chemistry II (3sh) Modern inorganic chemistry with emphasis on the structure and bonding of inorganic and organo- metallic compounds.

Research Interests   Synthetic Main Group Chemistry

> Synthesis of cyclic and cage molecules with Si, Ge, Sn and Pb skeletal atoms.

> Of particular interest currently is the use of high cone-angle groups to help prepare and stabilize Main Group derivatives with novel structures.

> The use of lithium reagents of the form LiE(SiMe3)3 where E= C, Si, Ge and Sn to introduce high cone-angel substituents.

> Molecules made here recently.
