STAFF SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE
The Department of Human Resources (HR) is accepting applications for UH’s Spring 2007 Staff Tuition Scholarships through Jan. 5. The university provides up to $1,200 per semester to qualified individuals to attend credited courses on campus. Call 713-743-5764 or visit www.uh.edu/admin/

EMPLOYEES CAN APPLY FOR SKIP YEAR-ROUND
Eligible faculty, staff and graduate students can apply for the State Kids Insurance Program throughout the year to cover most of the health insurance premiums of eligible children. 11/09/06 FLU VACCINATIONS AVAILABLE AT HEALTH CENTER
The UH Health Center is offering the fl u vaccine to faculty, staff and students. The cost is $16. The shots are being distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Vaccination hours are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. For more information, call 713-743-5151.

UH’s free comprehensive Employee Assistance Program provides financial advice, legal assistance and family and personal counseling to benefits-eligible faculty and staff and their household members. Visit www.uteap.org or call 713-500-3327 for more information.

TEXFLEX EXTENDED
TexFlex participants have until Nov. 15 to spend funds in their 2006 accounts, and they have until Dec. 31 to file claims for reimbursement of medical expenses. Call the benefits office at 713-743-5764 for more information.

PRESCRIPTION PLAN REQUIRES $50 DEDUCTIBLE
Benefits-eligible faculty and staff must pay a $50 deductible each fiscal year before the prescription plan Medco begins to cover drug costs. Only eligible prescription drug purchases count toward the deductible, which applies to each member and covered dependent. Call the benefits office at 713-743-5764 for more information.

BENEFIT CHANGES AVAILABLE ONLINE
Faculty and staff can now view and/or print a summary of their new benefit coverage, which went into effect Sept. 1, by visiting the Employees Retirement System of Texas’ (ERS) Web site at www.ers.state.tx.us under benefits summary. The benefits office advises faculty and staff to compare their insurance deduction statements on their October pay stub with their ERS benefits summary. A new recruiting tool that is part of the PeopleSoft application is now in use in the Office of Admissions. Prospects is the first part of the PeopleSoft student administration application to go live at UH and is the first part of the PeopleSoft Version 8.9 application to be used in the UH System. New meal plan available for faculty, staff

VIP phone system to end
UH will discontinue its Voice Information Processing phone system at 12:01 a.m. Nov. 10 due to a tremendous increase in students’ use of Enrollment Services Online at www.uh.edu/enroll/. Students may register, check grades and pay tuition and fees at the Web site, which also provides online access to the admissions, registrar, financial aid and bursar’s offices. Regents approve scholarship Pledge program for UH students

Online-Only class schedule available
UH now offers an online-only version of its class schedule, which provides more information than the printed version. Faculty, staff and students who do not have access to computers can view the site at the M.D. Anderson Library and at other sites across campus. A hard copy can be printed via a PDF file; however, the file will not be updated. To view the class schedule, visit www.uh.edu/enroll/rar/class_schedule.html.

Staff scholarships applications due soon
The Department of Human Resources (HR) is accepting applications for the UH Staff Tuition Scholarship Program for spring 2006. The deadline is Jan. 6. All full-time, benefits-eligible, nonprobationary employees are eligible to apply for a scholarship of up to $750 toward a three-credit hour course at UH. Weight Watchers to kick off new session
The UH Weight Watchers at Work group will begin a new 15-week session in January. Interested participants must register by Dec. 16. The session will cost $180. Faculty and staff can pay using TexFlex medical savings with a doctor’s medical note. Free motor assistance program a call away
The UH Department of Parking and Transportation Services provides free motor assistance to the UH community. The department assists in unlocking motor vehicles and changing flat tires, and it offers jump starts and gasoline. For more information, call 713-743-5849.
