William Fitzgibbon, College of Technology dean,

The lab also was the subject of a story on KHCW-TV,
Channel 39. Jim Granato, Center for Public
Policy director, was interviewed about voter turnout on Houston

Heath, professor of communication, also were interviewed

Daewon Byun, professor of atmospheric science
and chemistry, was interviewed on Houston
Public Radio, KUHF-FM 88.7 about his development of a system
to measure ozone levels in the air and his creation of a Web site
that provides daily ozone forecasts. Byun directs the UH Air Quality
Modeling Group.
On CNBC, Michael Economides,
professor of chemical engineering, discussed the possibility of
Iran cutting off oil supplies if the United Nations imposes sanctions.
Rupa Iyer, research associate professor in the
College of Technology, was interviewed on Houston
Public Radio, KUHF-FM 88.7 about UH’s undergraduate
degree program in biotechnology. The Texas Workforce Commission
has given UH a $1 million grant to design the program.
On National Public Radio’s
Talk of the Nation, Carl Lindahl, the Martha
Gano Houston Research Professor of English, discussed the Surviving
Katrina and Rita in Houston project, which he co-directs. Lindahl
also was interviewed about the project on Houston
Public Radio, KUHF-FM 88.7.
Ralph Metcalfe, professor of mechanical engineering
and deputy director of biomedical engineering, and Ioannis
Kakadiaris, associate professor of computer science,
were interviewed on KHOU-TV, Channel 11,
about UH scientists’ collaboration with the Texas Medical
Center on creating new technology to check for blocked arteries
that lead to heart attacks. The story also aired on Texas Cable
News Network.

and social work.
David Dow, University Distinguished Professor
in the UH Law Center, discussed a law that changed the way the

Donna Kacmar, assistant professor of architecture,
was interviewed on KUHF 88.7FM Houston Public

on U.S. Supreme Court Judge Samuel Alito appeared in the Houston
Chronicle. His letter regarding unjust deportation appeared
in the New York Times. Dow is University
Distinguished Professor in the UH Law Center.

impact of the thousands of displaced New Orleans citizens arriving
in Houston.
USA Today published an article on
the College of Optometry’s efforts to extend
its services to Hurricane Katrina evacuees.
The University of Houston was noted in a Houston
Chronicle article about Texas schools offering in-state
tuition to students displaced by Hurricane Katrina. Several newspapers
and television stations, including the Houston Chronicle and the
Brown Daily Herald, reported that the UH Law Center
will host Loyola University law students for the fall semester
and that hundreds of displaced students had enrolled at UH.
