Hip-hop, Tejano, country, Latin and rock. Just as the University
of Houston’s student population is diverse, so are the
sounds that will pulsate from the university’s 2008 Frontier
Fiesta. The festival starts 5 p.m. today (March 27) and runs
through Saturday, March 29.
The annual student-sponsored event will feature a unique program
that has something for everyone. All Frontier Fiesta concerts
and events are free and open to the public. The scheduled acts
will perform in Fiesta City, a scenic recreation of an urban
city, located in the parking lot and pavilion area of Robertson
Stadium. No tickets are required for the concerts.
This year’s schedule is as follows:
• March 27 – Live Entertainment
• March 28 – Battle of the Bands
• March 29 – Family fun day
A tradition since the 1940s, Frontier Fiesta was once called “The
Greatest College Show on Earth” by Life magazine. In
addition to concerts, the event also showcases student-produced
Broadway-style variety shows, carnival booths, cultural and
educational performances, student showcases and a world-class
cook-off and a baking competition.
New things are coming for Frontier Fiesta 2008. After more
than 40 years working with the Western theme, Frontier Fiesta
has come up with a new scheme, A Night on the Town, and a new
slogan, “The Event of the Year at UH.”
