Titled “Future Building,” the University of Houston
President’s Report to the Community has been released
and is available at www.uh.edu/presidentsreport.
“It brings me great pleasure to present the University
of Houston’s President’s Report to the Community—a
publication that celebrates our achievements in the field of
higher education over the past year,” said Renu Khator,
UH president. “As you will read, our most recent accomplishments
underscore the notion that the University of Houston is well
on its way to becoming a top-tier metropolitan research university.”
The report covers fiscal year 2007—Sept. 1, 2006 to
Aug. 31, 2007. It includes short news items about academic successes,
such as Martin V. Melosi, Distinguished University Professor
of History and executive director of the Center for Public
History, receiving a Fulbright Senior Specialist Award.
Other stories highlight achievements in research,
such as UH’s efforts to build research clusters in which
teams of researchers from a wide range of disciplines collaborate
on issues of intellectual, scientific, social, economic, environmental
and cultural importance.
Additionally, the publication details numerous service initiatives,
including the College of Pharmacy’s Community Wellness
Program. Under the auspices of the program, students provide
screenings to communities in Harris County and the surrounding
areas.
An overview of the $716.6 million operating budget for fiscal
year 2007 also is included in the report.
“We are changing lives throughout our city in health,
education and outreach projects that are helping to build a
future for our children and our communities,” Khator
said. “The University of Houston is making a difference
in Houston, in Texas and in the world.”
