For the fourth time in the last five seasons, the Cougars football
team is heading to a bowl game. This year, the team will play
in the Texas Bowl against Texas Christian University on Friday,
Dec. 28, in Reliant Stadium. The game time is set for 7 p.m.
on the NFL Network.
When the Cougars take the field that day, Chris Thurmond, who
had been serving as the Cougars recruiting coordinator and assistant
coach in charge of cornerbacks, will lead the team as interim
head coach. Thurmond replaced Art Briles, who resigned to accept
the head coaching position at Baylor University.
“Chris Thurmond has a lot of experience,” said
Athletics Director Dave Maggard. “He’s been around
a long time. He is somebody that is respected on the staff and
by the players. Right now, he is the person best to be the interim
(head coach) and take us through the bowl.”
Purchase tickets, which are on sale now, by going to the Athletics
Ticket Office, calling 713-GO-COOGS or visiting www.UHCougars.com
and clicking the Texas Bowl link. Tickets bought at the UH ticket
office are $5 off the retail price.
