It’s time for faculty, staff and students to kick up
their heels for a good cause. On April 29, the University of
Houston will serve as one of the city’s March of Dimes
WalkAmerica sites.
This year’s walk will begin at 9 a.m., with the start/finish
line located in front of Entrance 14 on Cullen Boulevard. UH
President Jay Gogue will host a brief reception at 8 a.m. at
the university’s tent near Robertson Stadium. At last
year’s walk, UH teams raised more than $18,000.
“The university ranked No. 34 of the top 100 fund-raisers
in the city last year, and our goal is to do even better this
year,” said Juanita Jackson, campus WalkAmerica logistics
coordinator.
The March of Dimes, whose mission is to improve the health
of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant
mortality, held its first walk in 1970. Since then, the event
has raised more than more than $1.7 billion.
