The University of Houston on Wednesday (March 21) will host
a delegation of university presidents and high-ranking education
officials representing 25 universities in the People’s
Republic of China.
Twenty-six Chinese leaders will meet with several UH administrators,
including President Jay Gogue, who will discuss the role and
mission of public research universities in society.
Following Gogue’s talk, Donald Foss, senior vice president
for academic affairs and provost, will speak about the administration,
organizations and governance of a public research university.
Jerald Strickland, assistant vice chancellor for international
studies and programs; Yali Zou, Asian American Studies Center
director and professor of educational leadership and cultural
studies; and Foss will provide details about promotion, tenure,
remuneration, post-tenure review and evaluation methods.
The delegation also will hear about the arts at UH, the university’s
planning and budget process and its university advancement efforts.
During their trip, the leaders will visit Rice University,
the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and Texas
A&M University.
